Fundamentals of Water Wells Workshop
Fundaments of Water Wells Workshop
Workshop Description
Water wells are a critical part of any groundwater supply system, but each individual well has a unique structure and was installed using one of several potential drilling/construction techniques. Moreover, each well receives groundwater from the unique and site-specific hydrogeologic environment in which it was drilled. The manner in which a well is designed, drilled, constructed, developed and subsequently operated will have a substantial impact on the well’s overall performance and value – both in terms of water productivity and efficiency, and water quality. This workshop will provide a logical progression of design concepts and analytical techniques to provide attendees with a familiarity of methods and perspectives that will help guide them through the maze of well design/construction alternatives and pitfalls.
Who should attend:
- Hydrologists, Geologists, Engineers and other Groundwater Professionals
- Managers with Well Planning, Design, and Oversight Responsibilities for Water Supply Systems
- Water Well Contractors
- Federal, State, and Local Regulatory Personnel
- Public and Private Water Systems Officials

Instructor
Marvin Glotfelty, R.G., Marvin has 36 years of experience of hydrology and water well projects in Arizona and is nationally known in the water industry. He has been the Technical Director for the Arizona Water Well Association since 1990 and on their Legislative Committee from 1993 to present.
His contributions have ranged from extending the knowledge of Arizona hydrogeology, well design, well rehabilitation, and developing the tools for life cycle well asset management. Mr. Glotfelty is the quintessential person in Arizona when people need guidance and expertise with water wells (aka “The Well Master”). Marvin has an extensive list of publications and presentations in Arizona on well economics and was the leader in advancing stainless steel as the material of choice for new well designs over low carbon steel.
